Power & Network: Connect to a stable Wi-Fi network and keep battery life above 50% (or keep the phone plugged into power).
Storage Space: Major iOS version upgrades often require 5 GB to 8 GB of temporary space to install.
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap General.
Tap Software Update.
The iPhone will automatically check Apple's update servers.
Verification: If an update is available, details about the build (e.g., security fixes, version number, and file size) will appear on screen.
Tap Update Now to install immediately, or tap Update Tonight if you want your iPhone to install the update automatically while charging overnight.
If a minor bug-fix update is listed at the top and a major upgrade is available below (e.g., under "Also Available"), tap the major release build if you wish to upgrade to the latest OS generation.
Enter your iPhone device Passcode if prompted.
Agree to the Apple Terms and Conditions.
The iPhone will download the update file, display a progress bar, and switch to "Preparing Update..." as it validates the firmware signatures.
Tap Install Now when the countdown concludes.
The screen will go black, and an Apple logo with a white progress bar will appear. The device may restart more than once during this process.
Verification: Once the update finishes, the lock screen will appear. Unlock your phone; a prompt will show "Software Update Complete" and confirm the new iOS version under Settings > General > About.
